What benefits/discounts are available to me? The culture pass (KulturLegi) allows persons with low incomes to obtain discounts for cultural, sports, educational, and leisure activities. The community Day-ticket ( SBB Tageskarte Gemeinde) is valid for free transportation on all federal train (SBB) and post-bus routes as well as most private railways, public transportation in the cities, and several boat companies in Switzerland. Many season passes, such as the railway Halbtax-Abo (SBB travelcards and tickets), offer-discounted rates.
What major sporting events are held in Kloten? Together with the town centre of Schluefweg, the SWISS Arena, home base of the EHC Kloten, is probably the largest leisure and sports facility in Zurich at the moment. In addition to the EHC Kloten with approximately 10 individual teams, the ice skating club Kloten ECK takes part in the Klotener Eis, known for its high quality. From mid-July until mid-May, they ensure a very high occupancy rate of the SWISS Arena and the outdoor ice rink for almost 10 months. The Ruebisbach sports hall is the triple gymnasium of the city and is mainly used by the VBC Züri Unterland, the UHC Kloten-Dietlikon Jets and the Kloten handball club. The hall has an A-homologation and is therefore suitable for NLA games. At the 45x27 m, top sporting performances are shown again and again, for example at the U21 four-country handball tournament Airport Trophy. The Ruebisbachhalle has a fixed grandstand with 300 seats, whereby the extendable tribune can be used to gain an additional 500 seats.
Where can I find a conference room? The conference centre (Zentrum Schluefweg) is located at the bottom of the Hardwald forest, completely free of hustle and bustle, but close to Zurich airport, yet at the heart of the action. In Schluefweg's events center there are many events such as banquets, theatre, concerts, symposiums, conferences and meetings, which are attended by a wide variety of people from Switzerland and abroad. All rooms are equipped with W-LAN. The Bücheler-Hus (see also "Ortsmuseum") contains the gallery in the former stable and the Festsaal on the upper floor. While the gallery can only be rented for certain occasions, the Festsaal is available for commercial, private and public events. The shed and forecourt contribute to the beauty of the atmosphere. The Bücheler brochure, available in the information office or as a download, provides information on the possibilities and conditions of renting The Waldhütte Schluefweg can be reserved for your family party or other non-commercial occasions. The hut has room for 50 people. It is only rented to people who live or work in Kloten. Click here for online reservation.
Where can I find information about cultural events and organizations? In order to integrate well in Switzerland and to feel comfortable, it is important to participate in social and cultural life. There are numerous cultural events - from exhibitions and lectures, to theatre performances and concerts. Many of the events in Kloten are free of charge and open to the public. Where can I find out about volunteer work? Around a quarter of the resident population in Switzerland participates in institutionalised voluntary work assignments. In other words, they do voluntary work in the service of society and do not demand payment for it. Work assignments are organised by associations, charitable, political or public organisations. Voluntary work can be found in areas such as culture, environment, sport, politics, neighbourhood help, social, ecclesiastical and many other aspects of our society. A large variety of sports clubs, that inspire and integrate participants with a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and abilities are available in Kloten. Swimming and sports facilities to suit anyone’s liking can be found in the city. The facility is managed by FC Kloten, which has been taking care of "everything to do with football" since 1950. There are a total of 6 football pitches as well as very comfortable club rooms on the modern complex. Active players and spectators feel equally at home and well looked after.
